Lot Description
1892-S $1 AU55 NGC. Writing in the third edition of his A Buyer's Guide to Silver Dollars & Trade Dollars of the United States, Bowers notes that: "Many if not most were placed into circulation within a decade or two of striking. The 1892-S is common in worn grades but is very rare in true Mint State." This situation has prompted many collectors to seek an example in AU, such as the current offering, rather than pursue a rare and pricey Uncirculated coin. This piece should attract favorable notice, as it has finer-than-expected eye appeal and technical quality for the grade. Well-defined and essentially untoned with considerable mint luster still evident. From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.
