Lot Description
1894 Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-65 (PCGS). CAC. OGH. At just 110,000 pieces produced, the 1894 boasts the lowest mintage among business strike Morgan Dollars attributed to the Philadelphia Mint. It is a key-date issue in this widely collected series, and is the rarest P-mint delivery in Mint State after only the conditionally challenging 1901.
When offered in Mint State, the 1894 is usually confined to the MS-60 to MS-64 grade range by subdued luster and/or detracting abrasions. Precious few examples possess the strong technical quality and captivating eye appeal that confirm the present example as one of the finest '94-P Dollars ever to pass through this cataloger's hands. Bursting with frosty luster and a needle-sharp strike, both sides are further adorned by lovely iridescent toning. Rose-apricot color is largely confined to the left periphery on the obverse, but the color is seen throughout the reverse. There are none but a few wispy abrasions in evidence, and certainly none that detract. Definitely an important find for the advanced Morgan Dollar collector.
