Lot Description
1895-O $1 MS61 PCGS. For collectors of brilliant, untoned Morgans, this Mint State 1895-O will fit in nicely with a carefully chosen set. Many sliders of the date masquerade as Mint State, and choosing a certified example is the safest route. This MS61 PCGS example is a solid Uncirculated coin that offers many positive attributes. The surfaces are fully lustrous and bright with a vibrancy not always found on the 1895-O, a date that is well-known for dull or uninspiring surfaces. Reflectivity in the fields provides a noticeable contrast against the devices which -- while not fully struck, as expected for this O-mint date -- are distinctly above-average in detail. Abrasions are mostly confined to an area on and around Liberty's chin, accounting for the assigned grade. The cheek is clean and lightly frosted. Just 450,000 pieces were minted, many were melted, and there are simply not enough quality Uncirculated specimens of this date to meet the demand. Population: 31 in 61, 81 finer (11/13). From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.
