Lot Description
1895-O $1 MS61 PCGS. The 1895-O Morgan dollar is a low-mintage issue (450,000 pieces struck), that was not well-made, and most examples seen have weak strikes and lackluster surfaces. Most of the mintage was released into circulation at an early date, before numismatic interest in branch mint issues was well-developed. No bags of 1895-O dollars were among those released by the Treasury Department in the 1960s. The present coin is an attractive exception to the rule for this issue, with well-detailed design elements that show just a touch of softness on the hair above Liberty's ear. Likewise, the surfaces show only minor contact marks and the luster is much more vibrant than usual. A few hints of pale gold toning add to the considerable eye appeal. Population: 33 in 61, 80 finer (4/14).
