Lot Description
1895-S $1 MS65 PCGS. The three active Mints combined did not strike a million Morgan dollars in 1895; after the 1895-O's mintage of 450,000 pieces and the 1895-S's output of 400,000 coins, Philadelphia's mysteriously missing and most likely mythic 12,000 business strike examples are nowhere to be seen, with only 880 proofs representing that date-and-mint combination. This 1895-S dollar is a great Gem example from that challenging year, well-defined with touches of frost on the devices, particularly the portrait. The obverse shows rose, violet, and blue toning at the bottom quarter, while the rest of that side and most of the reverse remains bright silver. A few milky touches are noted below the wreath. Population: 34 in 65 (1 in 65+), 2 finer (7/13).
