Lot Description
1896-S $1 MS65 PCGS. Pale silver is the dominant color of this Gem 1896-S dollar, and the faint hint of peach color on that side coalesces into a delicate patch at the left reverse. The hair over Liberty's ear is softly struck, a typical state, but the broadly swirling cartwheel luster over each side holds special appeal. On the reverse, die cracks lace together most of the peripheral letters and the wingtips. Despite a mintage of 5 million pieces, the 1896-S is a borderline condition rarity at the Gem level and unquestionably so any finer. Population: 55 in 65, 3 finer (11/11).
