Lot Description
1904-S $1 MS66 NGC. Although the supply of 1904-S Dollars in dealers' stocks was sizeable enough to meet collector demand in the 1940s and 1950s, this date is now recognized as a significant rarity in Mint State. Moreover, most Uncirculated survivors are low grade examples with extensive bagmarks, indifferent luster, and/or poor striking quality, with solidly graded Gems being few and far between. At the MS66 level of preservation, the 1904-S has a certified population of just four PCGS coins and two NGC examples. There are only four pieces finer at both services combined. This is a lovely Gem with mottled crimson-russet iridescence around the peripheries. The luster is satiny in sheen with modest hints of brightness in the fields and a few wispy striations (as produced) on the obverse. The strike, while not completely full, is well above average for the issue with bold definition in virtually all areas. A smooth Gem that is worthy of a premium bid.
