Lot Description
1927-S $1 MS66 PCGS. Ex:Jack Lee Collection. As might be expected from its low mintage of 866,000 pieces, the 1927-S Peace dollar is one of the rarest dates of the series in higher Mint State grades. In addition to the limited mintage, the 1927-S was plagued by poor production values, and almost all examples seen display weak striking details. Currently, PCGS has graded only two coins in MS66, with none finer, while NGC has certified just a single Premium Gem, also with none finer (3/11). Among all Peace dollar issues, only the 1925-S appears less often in MS66, with no Premium Gem specimens certified. The present coin is a well struck Premium Gem, with the typical softness evident in some of the lettering and the central design elements. The surfaces show few signs of contact, with vibrant mint luster shining under light golden patina. Housed in a green label holder. From The Paul Taylor Collection.
