Lot Description
1934-S $1 MS66 PCGS. Among the entire Peace dollar series, the 1934-S issue is regarded as "the key." There was a time, however, in the 1930s and 1940s when the 1934-S was thought to be common, according to Roger Burdette's series Guide Book, since five other issues had lower mintages -- the 1921 (barely), 1927, 1927-S, 1928, and 1934 each were produced in smaller quantities than the 1934-S, with a net 1,011,000 pieces coined. Burdette writes that "no significant hoards of 1934-S coins were established" and that "many were released into circulation." The MS66 PCGS grade of the present coin is one of only two dozen such submissions at that service, and there are none finer (5/11). This silver-white Premium Gem is encapsulated in a green-label holder, displaying better surface quality, superior luster, and overall far higher eye appeal than typically encountered, even among some other examples at this grade level. Top-notch quality for a fine Registry Set.
