A brilliant and satiny gold dollar, very nearly as nice as the moment it left the dies. From a tiny net mintage of just 5,016 pieces. The variety was produced to commemorate the centennial of the birth of the great Civil War general who was also a U.S. president. The design was created by Laura Gardin Fraser, and is almost identical in style to the 1922 Grant half dollars.
