Lot Description
1776 Continental Dollar. CURENCY. Newman-1-C, W-8445. Pewter. EF-45 (PCGS). This impressive 1776 Continental dollar is attractive pewter-gray throughout with a delightful antique appearance. Free of tin pest or other handling problems, it retains excellent eye appeal. Rather sharply struck despite being from a later die state where the obverse has cracked from CO to TA of CONTINENTAL. For identification there is a shallow, dull nick right at the upper tip of the 6, a similar rounded dull nick is located nearly opposite touching the link of DELAWARE in the chain. Worthy of an advanced collection, there are probably no more than a few hundred of this issue known today, precious few considering how many collectors would like to own such a prize from our early history.
