Lot Description
1860 $3 MS64 NGC. CAC. Glorious luster has the design's signature frosty swirl but also far more brightness than usually seen. Liberty's portrait is well-defined and only a touch of softness affects the knot in the wreath. Both sides show a mix of lighter and deeper yellow-gold shadings with a few small coppery areas in the dentils near the rims. The 1860 three dollar issue, mintage 7,036 business strikes, was one of the last to see any circulation, as the onset of the Civil War drove silver and gold coinage, the three dollar denomination included, out of circulation. Census: 3 in 64, 2 finer (3/13).
