Lot Description
1872 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. MS-61 (NGC). Impressively bold in strike, most features on both sides are actually sharply-to-fully defined. Other positive attributes for this coin include even khaki-rose patina and a lack of significant abrasions, especially at the BU level of preservation. The rare, 2,000-piece 1872 Three-Dollar gold issue is particularly elusive in Mint State, at which level Bowers and Winter (2005) allow for only 20-30 survivors.
