Lot Description
1888 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. MS-65 (NGC). Despite having a limited business strike delivery of 5,000 pieces, the 1888 Three is obtainable with patience in lower grades through MS-64. Gems in MS-65 are another matter entirely, however, as such pieces are genuinely scarce due to the difficulty of finding any issue of this type with carefully preserved, overall smooth-looking surfaces. Such is the quality we see in this NGC-certified example, a coin that also offers fulsome mint luster and handsome orange-gold color. A find for the advanced collector specializing in this very challenging 19th century gold series.
