Lot Description
1877 5C PR67 S Cameo NGC. For the first time since the debut of the five cent nickel in 1866, there were no business strikes produced for the denomination in 1877. Only proofs were minted, creating a series key that is recognized widely today; the official mintage of 510 pieces is supplemented by an unknown quantity of off-the-record strikes. This is an impressively preserved specimen with moderate to heavy contrast and hints of aqua and emerald scattered in gleaming fields that are otherwise nickel-white. Out of four examples graded PR67 Cameo by NGC, this is the only one to receive the Star designation (3/11). From The Slotkin Family Trust Collection.
