Lot Description
1907 25C PR68 Cameo PCGS. Cameo and Deep/Ultra Cameo proof coins from the years after 1902 are much more elusive than the earlier series issues, as the Mint changed to low- or no-contrast format from the deeply contrasted proofs. This 1907 PR68 Cameo Barber quarter displays near-flawless technical merits, but the unblemished surfaces, in addition, are layered in an exquisite blend of orange-rose, turquoise-blue, lime-gold, and mint-green iridescence. A mere 575 proofs were issued this year, and only a handful of specimens with cameo contrast could possibly survive at this extraordinary level of preservation. Population: 2 in 68 Cameo, 0 finer (8/12). Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2004), lot 2062, which realized $13,800; JFS Collection / Pittsburgh Signature (Heritage, 8/2004), lot 4127, which brought $10,637.50. From The Greensboro Collection, Part I.
