Lot Description
1911 25C PR68 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Mintages of proof Barber coinage gradually diminished as the series progressed. Only 543 examples of the 1911 quarter were struck, the third-lowest production of the type. This razor-sharp PR68 Cameo specimen displays gorgeously preserved surfaces. The white-on-black contrast is impressive, complementing fully frosted devices on this untoned coin. Close examination with a loupe reveals no marks or other distractions. This piece brought an incredible $34,500 when we last offered it seven years ago, and today it remains tied for the numerically finest in either Cameo or Deep Cameo at PCGS. Population: 4 in 68 Cameo, 1 in 68 Deep Cameo, 0 finer (8/12). Ex: Bruce Scher #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set (retired in 2004) / Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2005), lot 4103. From The Greensboro Collection, Part I.
