Lot Description
1847-O Liberty Eagle. Winter Variety One. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC. 1892-O Liberty Eagle. Winter Variety One, the only known dies. MS-62 (PCGS). The 1847-O is the most plentiful No Motto eagle struck in the New Orleans Mint, and circulated examples appear quite regularly at auction in the market of the early 21st century. The coin we are offering here, however, displays pleasingly original (yes, we said original) "skin" to both sides, and it is a rare find for a pre-Civil War Southern gold coin in today's market, as such. Lovely olive-gold color throughout, with much of the satiny mint luster discernible as the coin rotates under a light. Sharply struck, lightly worn and generally free of singularly distracting abrasions. Very, very appealing.
