Lot Description
1848-O Liberty Eagle. EF-45 (NGC). Deep yellow-gold with lively orange highlights at the peripheries. Only lightly marked n places, a blessing for an eagle that experienced a lengthy stay in commerce. The variety with a hollow ring atop the second set of vertical stripes in the reverse shield. (The first notation in Breen's Encyclopedia (1988) for this reverse variety is for the 1851-O eagle; he notes the reverse variety for later dates, but no eagle earlier than the 1851-O issue is listed with this die anomaly.) Choice for the grade with a solid all-around appearance.
