Among the more elusive No Motto eagles from the Philadelphia Mint in lower grades, the 1860 is a significant condition rarity in any Mint State grade. Circulation through exportation claimed most of the 15,055 pieces produced, with hoarding and eventual melting claiming many more examples. There was simply little, if any numismatic demand in circulation strike eagles during the 1850s/1860s, and what few Uncs have survived did so purely as a matter of chance. This is just such a survivor, the devices sharply defined and free of wear. Modestly, yet appreciably prooflike in the fields, with warm medium orange patina blanketing both sides. Scattered abrasions are commensurate with the assigned grade, and most are small enough to be singularly inconspicuous to the eye.
