Lot Description
1874-CC $10 AU55 NGC. Both eagles and double eagles were produced in comparatively plentiful proportion in 1874 as bullion deposits saw a huge increase, with the preponderance Liberty twenties. The 1874-CC tens were produced to the extent of 16,767 coins, but a Choice AU piece such as the present coin is quite scarce, and examples in Mint State are few and far between, with only one confirmed example each at NGC and PCGS. The attractive orange-gold surfaces are well-struck and lightly abraded, a pleasant surprise given the hard-money traditions of the Old West that caused most gold to circulate extensively: The average grade of certified survivors of this issue is only a bit better than VF35. Census: 42 in 55, 3 finer (9/10).
