Lot Description
1876-S $10 XF45 PCGS. It is a bit strange that the Centennial S-mint eagle was struck in such a small amount -- 5,000 pieces -- since the California Gold Rush and the San Francisco Mint both played pivotal roles in America's great westward expansion during the mid-19th century. Most of those coins circulated immediately in the Old West, rather than being "thrown back" as mementos. This Choice XF example displays moderate wear and contact marks that are grade-consistent, complementing rich orange-gold to reddish-orange color. Population: 20 in 45, 13 finer (12/12).
