Lot Description
1972 $1 Type One MS66 PCGS. The first of three distinct types identified for the Eisenhower dollar in 1972, distinguished by a low-relief or "weak" Earth in the background of the vignette on the moon. While the Type One is not the key subtype of the date, it is also a significant condition rarity at the MS66 level, where PCGS has graded only four coins with none finer (3/11). Both sides of this Premium Gem are strongly lustrous under light gold-to-orange patina with a squared-off area of darker shading at the reverse interior. Just a few tiny marks on and near the portrait preclude an even finer designation. A prize for the Registry Set collectors of this increasingly popular series.
