Lot Description
1909-S $10 MS64 PCGS. CAC. The 1909-S ten dollar piece is more difficult to obtain in the better Mint State grades than its rather generous mintage of 292,350 pieces would suggest. Most Uncirculated 1909-S eagles in today's market can be traced to a hoard that surfaced in the late 1970s. Since that hoard included coins that predominantly grade MS60 to MS63, the 1909-S remains scarce in MS64 and rare as a Gem. Both sides of this yellow-gold near-Gem yield pleasing luster that is somewhat satiny. The design elements are well struck and the few marks worth mentioning are very minor and mostly concealed within the feathers of the headdress and the eagle. The latter attribute is significant because most survivors possess a generous number of moderate-size bagmarks. Population: 50 in 64 (5 in 64+), 27 finer (11/12).
