Lot Description
1909-S $10 MS65 PCGS. Michael Fuljenz ranks the 1909-S eagle eighth in overall rarity among the 32-coin Indian Head series -- not too shabby a showing for a set that includes such luminary rarities as the 1907 Rolled Rim and Wire Rim, the 1920-S, 1930-S, and 1933. Any MS64 1909-S is a very scarce coin; Gems are rare. The present MS65 PCGS example boasts radiant luster throughout both sides as its calling card, a trait that immediately boosts the eye appeal to a high level. Rose-gold color prevails, and a few thin marks on Liberty's cheek are consistent with the grade while precluding an even finer one. The reverse shows luster grazes more than actual contact marks, and the uniformly sharp strike more than compensates. Population: 18 in 65, 7 finer (3/12).
