A limited mintage of 300,000 only partially explains the difficulty of locating a high quality 1912-S in today's market. This is a poorly struck issue, the centers almost always indistinct, and luster quality also tends to be below average. Of course, Mint State examples in any grade are scarce, the 1912-S ranking 12th of 32 issues in the Indian eagle series in terms of total number of Uncs known. This light-orange survivor sports uncommon vibrancy to a softly frosted finish. The central reverse is lightly impressed, but the balance of the features are sharp, to include the central obverse highpoint. Not overly abraded, with few individually conspicuous marks.
