A razor sharp strike and full, softly frosted luster greet the viewer from both sides of this conditionally scarce Indian ten. Also very much in evidence is lovely orange-gold toning, but conspicuous by their absence are numerous and individually significant abrasions. Writing in the 2008 revision to the book A Handbook of 20th Century United States Gold Coins: 1907-1933 by David W. Akers, Jeff Ambio ranks the 1912-S 12th in Mint State rarity among the 32 issues in the Indian eagle series. The author also states: "The 1912-S is one of the most challenging Indian [e]agles to locate in high grades. Even in MS-63 and MS-64 it is a very scarce issue."
