Lot Description
1914-S $10 MS64 PCGS. CAC. From a mintage of just 208,000 pieces, the 1914-S Indian Head eagle is a challenging date in higher grades. The present coin is a delightful Choice Mint State example, with an exemplary strike. This specimen shows unusually fine detail on the headdress feathers and Liberty's hair. Mint luster is also exceptional, vibrant and richly frosted. The surfaces are an attractive greenish-gold color, with hints of orange on the reverse. Overall eye appeal is outstanding. The difficulty of improving on the high quality of the present coin is underscored by data from the grading services. Currently PCGS has certified only 11 coins in higher numeric grades, while NGC has graded 15 examples at the Gem level or finer (9/10).
