The 1875-CC is the most frequently encountered Carson City Mint double eagle from the 1870s, and it is also among the most plentiful issues in this mintmarked gold series as a whole. The vast majority of survivors are circulated, however, and in keeping with the standards of the Type II double eagle series in its entirety the 1875-CC is a formidable rarity in the finest Mint State grades. The occasional BU survivor is available to those who search through auction catalogs with diligence and persistence, but such pieces seldom possess the quality and eye appeal of this PCGS MS-62. Both sides are remarkably vibrant for the grade, the surfaces awash in vivid rose-orange patina and full, swirling, frosty textured luster. The strike is sharp and also superior in quality, and there are no singularly distracting abrasions to inhibit the coin's presentation. Sure to appeal to the discerning CC-mint gold specialist or mintmarked type collector.
