Lot Description
1929 $20 MS63 NGC. The 1929 is the first of the mass-melted issues in the last years of the series. The original mintage of 1.7 million pieces tells us nothing about the actual rarity of this date, it only gives an indication of the number of coins that were probably melted. It is estimated that today probably no more than a hundred or so pieces are known in all grades. This is a bright, sparkling, lustrous example that displays lovely yellow-gold coloration. A bit weakly struck, the most obvious flaws that could be used for pedigree purposes are a horizontal mark across Liberty's abdomen and a vertical scrape that crosses the trailing feathers of the eagle's wing and tail feathers. Population: 26 in 63, 61 finer (7/03). From the Davis Collection.
