Lot Description
1900 $1 Lafayette Dollar MS66 PCGS. DuVall 3-D. A scarcer die pair with the obverse distinguished by repunching on the AT in STATES. In condition terms, of course, any Lafayette dollar finer than a Gem is scarce, and the vast majority of those pieces are Premium Gems with only a baker's dozen of Superb Gems in the combined certified population (3/13). This MS66 example has light, incomplete golden toning against a silver backdrop with strong cartwheel luster. Though the strike is typically soft -- on the reverse it is impossible to see the line at the top of Lafayette's boot -- this is an all-around excellent example of the first U.S. commemorative silver dollar. Population: 80 in 66 (1 in 66+), 5 finer (3/13).
