Lot Description
1939-S 50C Arkansas MS67 PCGS. A band of ruby-red, navy-blue, and gold patina hugs the upper left reverse, although the undisturbed surfaces are mostly cream-gray in color with occasional freckles of tan patina. The final year of the Arkansas type. The popularity of Silver Commemoratives crested in the mid-1930s, and by 1939 the speculative fever had largely abated. Only 2,100 PDS sets were issued, along with a few stray pieces destined for assay. Among that small production, only a handful of survivors can match the exceptional preservation and strike of the present Superb Gem. Population: 4 in 67, none finer (6/04). Ex: New York Signature Sale (Heritage, 7/02), as part of lot 5051, which realized $32,200. From the JFS Collection, the #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set.
