Lot Description
1934 50C Boone MS68 PCGS. The Boone series started out innocently enough, with a single issue from the Philadelphia Mint in the amount of 10,007 pieces. The mintage was somewhat low, but no lower than that of the Hawaiian half. Of course, collectors know what followed: 15 more issues, none of them with mintages over 12,012 coins and seven of them represented by under 3,000 examples. The exceptional commemorative offered here hails from that fateful first issue. Both sides display strong luster with splashes of color at the margins. Gold, russet, and lilac-blue toning appears in a crescent at the right obverse, while the reverse has delicate splashes of orange and canary-yellow. NGC has graded just one 1934 Boone in MS68, and at PCGS, this coin similarly stands alone, with none finer at either service (3/07). From The Cary & Cheryl Porter Collection.
