Lot Description
1937-S 50C Boone MS68 S NGC. The 1937-S Boone, like many of the later issues in multiple-year commemorative series, has a picayune mintage that reflects the fading contemporary demand for new issues. Only 2,506 coins were struck, 2,500 for sets and six for assay. Even though most examples went to speculators and received careful handling, a few of those halves stand out from the pack. Vibrant bronze, magenta, violet, and silver-gray patina covers both sides of this exquisitely preserved and shining Boone. The overall visual appeal is simply outstanding and makes this commemorative a tremendous opportunity for the discerning collector. NGC has graded four examples in MS68, and PCGS just one; of the four NGC-certified pieces, this is the only one to receive the Star designation (4/07). From The Cary & Cheryl Porter Collection.
