Lot Description
1936 Lynchburg, Virginia Sesquicentennial. MS-67 (NGC). Deep, fiery red and emerald-green patina covers each side of this well struck, technically impressive Superb Gem. A few of the central areas remain untoned and silvery-gray. This issue depicted Senator Carter Glass who was alive at the time, prompting some controversy, although this was hardly unprecedented. An earlier example is President Calvin Coolidge, then in office, on the obverse of the 1926 Sesquicentennial half dollar.
