Lot Description
1950-D 50C Booker T. Washington MS67 PCGS. CAC. A series of silver commemorative half dollars honoring the life and accomplishments of Booker T. Washington was authorized by Congress in 1946, and large numbers of the coins were produced at all three mints through 1950. Although many examples were sold through various distributors over the years, numismatic demand failed to meet the optimistic production totals. In 1950 the Denver Mint produced more than 12,000 specimens, but only half that number were actually distributed. The coins were poorly produced, and high-quality coins with well-struck details are quite elusive today. The present coin is a spectacular Superb Gem showing sharply detailed design elements throughout. The pristine surfaces display hints of attractive golden-tan toning amid vibrant mint luster on both sides. Eye appeal is extraordinary. Population: 6 in 67, 0 finer (12/12).
