Lot Description
1834 H10C 3/Inverted MS66 PCGS. V-5, LM-1, R.2. The most obvious and interesting characteristic of this die is the 3 in the date that is punched in over an upside-down 3. Struck from an intermediate state of the dies with part of the lower loop of the 8 filled. While only an R.2, at the MS66 level this coin qualifies as one of the finest known. The finest is an MS67 that we sold in the 1995 ANA Sale. This is an absolutely splendid half dime. Both sides are covered with sparkling mint luster that is overlain with mostly medium gray patina that has speckled rose and lime-green coloration interspersed. Sharply defined on the obverse with just the slightest softness noted on the highpoints of the reverse. Close examination shows a thin diagonal mark across the center of the obverse, but this is not evident without magnification.
