Lot Description
1795 $1 Draped Bust, Off Center AU50 PCGS. B-14, BB-51, R.2. A pleasing stone-gray example that has faint vertical obverse streaks of charcoal-gray toning. Luster beckons from the hair, wings, wreath, clouds, stars, and legends. Examination beneath a glass fails to locate any distracting marks. Bolender-14 is believed to be the first Draped Bust die marriage, since the bust punch was entered off center, an engraving blunder not made on the subsequent B-15. Partly lustrous examples of this first year large silver type are sought after by collectors of early American numismatics. Population: 5 in 50, 34 finer (6/13). Ex: Baltimore Signature (Heritage, 3/2009), lot 2311. From A Midwest Naval Officer's Collection of Early Dollars.
