Lot Description
1879-CC $1 MS64 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. Ex: NFL Set. A well struck representative that has splendid contrast between the frosty devices and the highly reflective fields. The reverse is surprisingly clean for the grade, while the obverse has a few light luster grazes. Freckles of barely discernible mauve color cling to the obverse margins. The 1879-CC is the scarcest Carson City Morgan Dollar issue from the mint's first period of production (1870 to 1885). Unlike the lower mintage 1881-CC and 1885-CC Dollars, the 1879-CC did not turn up in vast quantities in the GSA hoard. Uncirculated examples are always available for a price, but only a scant percentage of these pieces possess deeply mirrored fields. PCGS and NGC combined have certified only 33 examples in Near Gem DMPL, and a mere three coins finer. Population: 20 in 64, 2 finer (11/05). Ex: FUN 2001, lot 7913, where it brought $18,400. From The Michael Casper Collection, Part Two.
