Jaime Hernandez: In 2007 the U.S. Mint offered a W Uncirculated Gold Eagle for the second year in a row. These coins were struck in specially prepared Burnished planchets. The coins were struck in $5, $10, $25 and $50 denominations. These coins were offered besides the regular Uncirculated non W mint mark Gold Eagles, as well as the Regular Proof Gold Eagles for the year.

This year the Mint also offered four different Spouse Gold coins in Uncirculated and Proof versions. More than likely this affected sales of the Gold Eagles, with the 2007-W $10 being one of them since the mintage turned out to be very low compared to most other $10 Gold Eagles in the series.
