Ron Guth: The 1845 Half Dime has the largest mintage of any date/mintmark combination from the 1840s, which translates into a common coin today.  This date can be found readily in Mint State, where the most common grade is MS64.  Gems are scarce and superb examples are semi-rare.  Th best seen thus far is a single PCGS MS67+.

Most examples are struck quite well and the overall eye appeal for this date is excellent.
