Ron Guth: A large portion of the Proof mintage of the 1866 With Motto Half Dollars still survives, thanks to interest among collectors who were attracted to the addition of the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the reverse.  PCGS alone has certified almost a third of the original Proof mintage.  The quality of the surviving Proofs tend to be at the low end of the 60-70 scale, and most examples grade either PR62 or PR63.  Approximately a fifth of the examples certified by PCGS are Cameos.  Deep Cameo 1866 With Motto Half Dollars are extremely rare and represent a tiny fraction of the known Proofs.
