David Akers (1975/88): Like all the S-Mint Eagles from 1855 to 1878, the 1866-S Motto is very rare in any condition. This date is tied with a number of others for seventh place in rarity according to average grade and it ranked in the top 25% of the series in overall rarity. As a date, the 1866-S Motto is not as rare as the 1860-S, 1864-S, 1865-S normal date or 1866-S No Motto, but it does rank in the same rarity class as the 1858-S, 1859-S, 1862-S, 1863-S and 1865-S Inverted Date.
