Ron Guth: 1899 is a perfect choice for an affordable, available, quality example of a Proof Barber Half Dollar.  It can be found in a wide range of grades from PR60 to PR69 (the only date in the series that can make that claim as far as PCGS is concerned).  These come well struck in a variety of formats: Brilliant; Cameo; and Deep Cameo.  All the examples we've seen are fully struck and very well-made.
